Same Sex Marriage

As everyone now knows, Australia has officially become the 26th country to legalise same-sex marriage after the law was passed on the 7th of December 2017. This changed the definition of marriage to be that "Marriage (according to law in Australia) is the union of two people to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life".

As a marriage celebrant, this has been such an eye opening time for me. Not only has it brought to the forefront the archaic attitudes that still stand within Australia, it has really opened my eyes to the injustice that has been carried out for such a long time.  For me, I was all-for the laws to be changed and couldn't wait to be able to marry everyone on the same playing field. I had no idea how emotional it would become for me until I met with same sex couples who had been desperate for equality and this change in the law would be life changing for.
There has been no mad panic for same sex couples get married, no lining up at the Marriage Office to make it all official and guess what - the world didn't end either!
Just like anyone that is in love, each couple has their own way of planning out a special and unique wedding that is perfect just for the two of them. In a lot of cases, couples have been together for years already and often, have celebrated a commitment ceremony, so in their hearts, they are already married and just want to make it 'official'.

This was the case with Keiran and Bruce and Philip and Tony as pictured above. Two couples that have been together for over 30 years and just wanted to make it 'formal'. I had such an enjoyable experience getting to know them all. Keiran and Bruce were introduced by Philip and Tony and so they felt it right that they were all each others witnesses in a double wedding! The love was obvious and it made my heart sing to be able to do something that is so important, yet so simple for these beautifully endearing gents. I just loved every part of being involved in their marriage.

"We all appreciate the relaxed and professional way you conducted the wedding-thanks. We all found it an enjoyable experience."

So in conclusion, in case you were wondering, I am ecstatic to be able to perform same sex marriages and will happily guide anyone that desires, into taking that first step towards marriage.

Love is Love.
